I'm going to buy a set of 6 to use as dinner plates

Wait for other coins, Barriecarson.
This one looks spectacular, but the same 6 - will be boring.

Ok, I will only buy one of each for the next 6 releases. That will get me my dinner plate set.

I would love a blank planchet from this series!!

But seriously, are these things even considered 'coins' anymore? More like a round piece of silver art to me...

there was 4 million dollar gold coins produced by RCM, about a year ago one was auctioned for bullion value and Proof Positive was selling a RCM kilo gold piece at issue price with a bonus kg silver coin, My guess these coins have too high of a price point for any future price increases. The auctioned gold coin belonged to a bankrupt bullion dealer

@ SPP-Ottawa

Of course these are coins.

They're meant for giants with very strong and deep pockets.

If I had the money for this one I'd be all over it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they used two sets of dies for this one to create the reliefs.
Rest in Peace

Actually, it was 2007 - jeez how time goes by, and it was a $1,000,000 (million) dollar coin. It had 100 kg of 99.999 gold. Rumour has it, a Saudi prince has it now, and he uses it as a coffee table.

Saw that big gold 'coin' at the 2008 CNA Convention in Ottawa. Pretty cool.

Edit to add. Apparently, there are 5 of them out there somewhere.

"After several interested buyers came forward, the Mint decided to make a very limited quantity available for sale. To date, five of these majestic gold bullion coins, weighing 3,215 troy ounces each, have been purchased by investors from Canada and abroad."

"The world's largest gold coin is on display at the Canadian Mint Pavilion in Vancouver, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Face value of $1 Million dolars but is worth about $4 Million dollars right now, depending on the price of gold."

Guessing that is where the $4M figure came from.

I wonder what the demand would be it had it been a $10000 for $10000 offering?

5000/31.1034768 ~= 160.75 troy ounces

160.75 toz * US$22.77/toz * 1.029 CAD$/US$ ~= $3766

Yes, it's a coin... But yes, I'm buying it as a piece of art.
Once-in-a-lifetime investment, not intended for resale, but for permanently enjoying its view.
