People have talked about the Indian Heads they found, so just a thought, how about a flying eagle? That would be the find of the century! That would be a challenge for even the most experienced roll hunter!

Are the cupro-nickel cents still legal tender? I'm sure they wouldn't work in slot machines?

Quote: Are the cupro-nickel cents still legal tender? Yes, No U.S. coinage has ever been demonetized. @62Penny.... FEC's are .880 Copper. 120 Nickel...CuNi This was one of the major complaints about them. To quote The Dean (Bowers). "Trouble developed with the striking of the motif. The head and tail of the eagle in particular would not strike sharply unless a special effort was made, as the heavy wreath on the reverse was opposite in the dies from these features, a the requirement that metal flow in quantity in both directions was not satisfactory." Cupro-Nickel was simply too hard.

In theory, Flying Eagle cents should never be found in coin rolls. They are thicker and heavier, with different electro conductivity, than the bronze cents which followed them. They should not pass through coin sorting machines.

Thanks amida17 - never realised that.
sel_691 - I suppose they could crop up in CWR though - such as if someone found one lying about the house and didn't realise what it was...

Hello all. I was pointed to this thread from a member who commented on a thread I posted about a 1857 Flying Eagle I found in a Canadian cent roll recently. Its worn down quite a bit but still a great find here in Canada. Here is a link to the post with pics. Enjoy. https://goccf.com/t/161126

Nope.
I have found 6 or 7 Indians but no FE's after 100 if not more boxes.

Recall is not the same as demonetizing.
