Was spending the day with my mother yesterday and she had to stop at the bank to cash a check. I've never asked the bank for coins before so decided to try my luck. I handed my mom $20 and said see if they have and half dollars. She comes out with $15 dollars worth that the teller said she had just received about 10 minutes earlier. I was excited and searched through them. No silvers or NIFC but a good mix of years and 6-7 bicentennials. Maybe I'll have better luck next time but will prob keep the halves for fun.

And so it starts...

Then you'll start looking for excuses to visit the bank.
Cultivate favorite tellers to save stuff for you.
Visit other banks to compare them to "your" bank.

Ah, I started in a similar way. See if your mom will bring you once a week that's what I do.

I think it was more keeping Mom company as she ran her errands - the OPs profile says he's 64.

But it's a lot of fun and it will keep you off the streets and pretty much out of trouble and you can always spend the 'discards'...

Yea, I stopped in at my CU last week and the teller actually saved for me one clad Ike. Looks like I have trained at least one teller. I also obtained 97 bootleggers somebody had recently cashed in, not a silver one in the bunch. Found one I think used to be a proof but it had dulled significantly. There were a good bit of bicentennials in the mix, and a lot of 90s and a 2K.

Yeah I was just keeping my mom company I'm 27 and she lives a few miles away. There is only 3 banks that are close to me and 1 doesn't allow people without business to buy coins in excess. You can only get a few rolls at a time so I just get my rolls from work usually. It was more of a spur of the moment kind of thing but whenever I'm with my mom I always have her check and now she sometimes checks without me asking her. She also says me anything cool from her work. I've pretty much have my entire family looking at their change for me.
