It all depends on how many you may wish to give away 10 - 15 years from now....Personally I saved a bundle of 10's and 5's from the last issue and have plenty of 20's and 50's and a couple 10's from past issues going back to the multicolour 70's

While I order bundles from the banks on pretty much a weekly basis for the first few weeks with the new bills... I pretty much am only looking to keep radars, repeaters, ladders and solids. Everything else just gets sent back and I ask for new ones.

I think that for this series I may try to collect every prefix for the $5 notes just to have a bit of a different type of collection, but I don't imagine doing that for the $10's or $20's as that would just end up costing WAY too much ..

Yu are a smart person silver coin...proof of what yu just said happened couple days ago online were quite a few 2.oo 1986 gems.......one sold for 1.95 yes I said 1.95 for a 2.oo 2 or 3 more went for 2.02, some 2.15,2.25 so anyone who saved these gems from 1986 til now can make a whole 25cents.....I am trying to get some 10's polymer..none yet because I didn't strike yesterday when my bank had some "i said I will do it tommorow and I did try today now nothing....But as yu say (My wife and I think similar to yu)stay focused, stay small, don't save or spend a ton of money...I decided to try and get some 2.oo's if I can cheap enough by prefix...similar to what yu said about 5.oo's...

I am of the opinion that paper money doesn't really "appreciate" in value over time. Unless the note has something interesting such as a printing error, or desireable serial number they just really go for face value...

I have found there is even less attention towards replacement notes. When they used to identify the replacement with an asterisk, an X or a certain numeral they were easy to spot and people looked and paid attention to them.. but now they just don't get the same kind of excitement I find.

I have been a bit interested lately in trying to get an entire prefix collection together. The $100 denomination is probably the easiest to do.. but ends up costing quiet a bit. The $20 and $50 denominations are both challenging and can end up costing a lot as well. So I have decided to try with the new $5's. It will be fun and relatively inexpensive.. hopefully.

In general though I don't think you can look at this hobby as one that will bring a great return unless you find or come across something that is both rare and in great condition.

In July I researched prefix collecting of 1973 $1.oo,,,,Today after reading the posts above,,I did some reasearch on 1986 2.oo prefix collecting (Thinking about this for 3 weeks or so)....One could put together a (Very excelent)prefix 2.oo collection together for 29 or 30 notes.....but closer too ultimate perfection collector would need 192 notes....If yu combined this ultimate prefix with a signature combo yu need even more notes because they whammied (Unusual- to say the least)a lot of the Prefix's with 2 signatures....For Signature collectors there are 3 signature combo's....1.letter A,B,C,= BABN E,F,G,H,=CBN Silver coin I agre with yu face falue in above post....It seems I always agree with yu. I still hav no Polymer 10 yet went to 2 banks today...well next week,,,,.

I picked up a bundle of 5's last week and just had a chance to look at them in the last few days... HBK514401 > HBK514460 and then HBK 5153460 >5153499 with some singles missing in the 515 run. ended up with a radar 5144415 and a repeater 5144451. My first radar find

@Piroz: Nice finds but I thought a repeater was like 5151515.

Has anyone noticed the signatures on polymer fives are Macklem/Carney in the press releases and RCM images but Macklem/Poloz coming out of the bank (at least here in QC)?

Does anyone have a Macklem/Carney $5.00 poly? Carney left his post on June 3 so maybe the Carney's are rare?

" ended up with a radar 5144415 and a repeater 5144451. My first radar find"

Piroz... 5144451 isn't technically considered a repeater... I think they really only consider repeaters up to 4 digits...still a neat note.. just don't expect to see a premium on it.

I've noticed in addition to bills not appreciating as much is also the rarity of signatures. I have sold a few rare signatures and not got close to book values stated. Oh well, I don't collect to make money, but it is a nice perk.
