Sorry if this is old news but I stumbled across this link https://goccf.com/t/146564 while researching updated info on my last CNMI $20 St. Gaudens replica made by NCM back in 2004. There were questions posed that weren't answered so decided to add my 2 cents. This is the Forum used then so this is why I'm posting here now.

As per the link (and MOD Sap's post), they were sold without the COPY stamped into the back and were advertised as "Legal Tender". This was before a federal agency jumped down their throats for doing so, thus the added COPY stamp. The COA may have continued with the LT after this but I don't know for sure. CNMI was not the issuer. It is my understanding that NCM was commissioned by them to make these. But I had ordered 5 of them prior to this change and have one left **Moderator edit** - sorry, but sales promotion by new members is not allowed if anyone wishes to see one. I'd post a picture here but not familiar with this forum yet.
Yes, I know I'm probably not supposed to advertise sales here but I do not see a BST forum (like PCGS/NGC), so I've included it. Flame me if you need to or point me in the right direction, I can handle it!

Hello and welcome.

Sorry, but new members are not allowed to promote items for sale, on ebay or elsewhere. We hate to be strict about this, but we'd be flooded with spammers and scammers if we didn't have this policy in place. The forum does have a BST area, but the forum blocks members from posting there if they do not have the requisite number of posts.

As for the coin in question...

Since NCN did stamp "COPY" into the coins after they were told to do so and since the old thread contains a "COPY"-stamped coin with a CoA still claiming that the coin is legal tender in the CNMI, then I would now assume yes, the coins were sold like this by NCM.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
