@Silveroid: From the recent press release by the RCM, it appears that they will be commemorating events throughout the 2104-2020 period, which covers the start of each war through to its completion.
As Canada was not yet a fully independent nation within the British Commonwealth in 1914, it was brought into WWI through its political subservience to Great Britain when Britain declared war on Germany; it happened in August 1914.
The Statute of Westminster in 1931 essentially granted Canada its political independence from Great Britain. So, at the outset of WWII, Canada made its own decision to enter the war. It did so in September of 1939 by declaring war on Germany shortly after Britain did.
It's clear that Canada was an early participant in both world wars and so 2014 does represent a milestone anniversary year for the start of each.
