Hello, can you give me your thoughts on what AU grade this would be? Thanks...

Looks AU. It may be the scans but I don't see much mint luster which I would expect for this coin in AU. If the luster actually looks like it does in the scans, it may mean it has been cleaned or overdipped.

Thank you all for your feedback. Yes, this was on ebay. I just bought it for $65 and was wondering if I paid a good price for it. I was hoping it would be around AU 58.

I'd like to see more in-hand shots from a cam even a smart phone shot. I am with Double eagle and I cannot tell if its dipped or not from these pics. $65 is a nice price point if it makes a problem free grade; even a low AU. nice quarter nonetheless

Scanners 101: What you see as "dark" on this image will be "bright." Not necessarily as in "luster," in this case I'm thinking it'll show typical circulation darkness - perhaps a bit of toning, perhaps a bit of dirt/crud but acceptable for the era and wear. So the devices will be a bit bright - as well as some of the reverse fields - and the rest of it might present something of a "circulation cameo" effect. With that said, I'm a bit worried about the existence and reason for the darker splotches on the coin.

We'll see how close that is when the coin is in-hand.

SuperDave, what effect do you think these dark splotches would have on the coin's value? Thanks...

Unfortunately, a bit too much wear for 58.
55 perhaps.

I'm seeing evidence of a possible past cleaning on the high points.
I am also seeing evidence of protected luster amid the protected areas.
Yes, scans are hard (for me sometimes) to interpret, I am sticking with my analysis.
AU details.

They're going to have the effect of making a potential buyer think that maybe they're an artifact of an incomplete cleaning - the coin was originally far more nasty, and the cleaning couldn't quite get all of the nastiness. As a result, I (as a buyer) would probably consider the coin to be cleaned when assigning a value.

That doesn't mean I'll be right - "natural" explanations for those spots also exist - but collectors are picky.
