HI everyone, I just got this coin today, and I'm not even sure what it is. However, it does seem to be real since I don't see a seam or other signifiers of cheap, typical copies. Any help would be appreciated!

pishpash- thanks for the input! That does help. However, it leads me to believe that my coin is probably a rather well-executed reproduction. A bit of background: I bought this from a very reputable dealer who sells ancients but doesn't know a lot about them. Rather, he buys from other good dealers and consults a few knowledgeable people. Today he showed me a mix of rough Romans that he had in a forgotten bag in the back room. There were two of these in there, and he sold me this one for a very reasonable price. The dealer said that he had this coin back there for a good long while along with the others.
How rare is the Tiberius coin that you linked me to? If it is exceptionally uncommon, then I suspect that my coin is not the real deal.

Did you read the text at the back of the pic?

Herakles - PONTIUS PILATE. High Grade Example
$67.00
Jun-12-01
herakles_inc

Biblical. Pontius Pilatus. 26 - 36 C.E. AE Prutah. 2.20 grams. Obverse:
Three bound ears of barley, the outer ears droop, surrounded by IOYAIA
KAICAPOC. Reverse: Libation ladle (simpulum) surrounded by TIBEPIOY
KAICAPOC (of Tiberius Caesar) and date (LIS = Year 16 = 29 C.E.). AJC II,
283, Supp. V, 21 Hendin 648. About Very Fine. Rare as such.

Don't know what date yours is, maybe one of the others could help there. I am a newbie, only doing this a few months. It looks OK to me, but again, others might be able to help. I am optimistic :)

Sadly your coin is a reproduction, it is too round and the letters and strike look wrong from what I'm use to seeing on the original coins.

pishpash- Thanks for the help! I do appreciate it!

echizento- Thanks! I figured as much. Luckily I paid almost nothing for it since the dealer didn't know what it was.

Oh what a shame. Still it is a keeper for a "Black Collection".

Yeup, definitely a modern tourist fake of some obscure judaean issue. But as Pish says, dont chuck it.
