This one looks like it was completely abraded but remnants exist in different lighting conditions. This is the closest I have got to finding the 69 no FG

I don't get excited about these. The grading companies have stopped listing them. Just an abraded die or grease error.

Ya, even in the best shape I know they are not worth much to anyone, but I was born in 69 and I am a bit partial to coins from my year.

So is it just wear on the coin or what?

I think it is from grease and metal particles building up in that area on the die which gets compacted more and more until the die surface is flush with the field.
Rest in Peace

I've found & spent a few 69 no FGs. Nothing special about them unless you want to collect them.

Bye the way, some firm is selling no FG halves. They're no big deal either (at least to me.)
I guess the 3 legged Buffalo started a bad trend.

they are at least a "fun find". there is probably a small premium - to the right buyer. I have only found one, a 1988 - an I have kept it in my "unusual" coin collection. I like it. to each is own...

@1962penny...I was told that it is from over abrasion, polishing the working die.
