Looking to find out more info on some coins. I got a bunch of coins that were my dads. So since times are hard, I am trying to find out prices to see if it would be worth selling his collection.

Here is the first one.

Thanks

I go to http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml to check the "Fair Market Value" on coins and mint sets. I can't really see what the coins look like in the photos, so I can't give you a guess.

Check the Proof and Mint Set category at the website above and it will give you a good listing of prices for most US coins.

To check the grade of the coins, http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/ gives you photos to help learn how to grade your coins and what to look for.

I suggest you look into purching what is called the Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Don't buy the latest edition though since it will cost a lot compared to an older one. They have been made every year since 1946. Try to find one at a used book store, coin store, hobby store. Sit down and look up what you have. You'll find though that you could never get what is listed for value. Coin prices are usually what you'll pay for them. IF you go to sell them, you'ld find most places will give you a lot less than what they are worth since they too must make a profit when they sell them.

Hello kuivpaju and welcome. A lot will depend on what is considered "a bunch of coins". Can you explain in a little more detail what you have? Are they all mint sets, or do you have loose coins as well. As others have mentioned, a RedBook will go a long way in determining a bit of the value. It will be a bit high, but not near as inflated as the PCGS price guide.

Having said that, feel free to post some more pictures or provide a quick list of items that you have. Anything pre 64 in dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars will have silver melt value at a minimum.
