Hi --

I see some coins I'd like to buy and they are stated as being stored and shipped in safe-T flips which I assume are low-level PVC.

I plan to transfer them to fully non-PVC flips (Saflips) like all my collection. I am wondering could there be any residue left on the coins from the safe-T flips that I need to deal with or is it simply not an issue? I am not sure what the situation is with low-PVC flips? If you buy coins in low-level PVC or even PVC flips is it simply a matter to transfer them to non-PVC to stop any further PVC damage? Note: I do not see any PVC damage I am just saying if there is any microscopic that I can't see.

These are circulated Barber coins so I am fine with them as they are now I just want them to stay as they are now into the future :)

Thank you!

Do a Search in this forum for one of our numerous discussions of acetone usage, and plan on a quick rinse for each coin as you receive it. The PVC byproduct infestation begins as something not visible to the naked eye so you're wise to consider this, but acetone stops it in its' tracks. There are many members here who use an acetone rinse as preventative medicine on all their purchases.

With that said, there are some circumstances when one might not want to use acetone. For example, if there are some areas of a coin covered in crud which the acetone is capable of removing, you might end up with a splotchy coin whose fields darkened more in the non-crud areas and it would lose all visual appeal (not to mention value).
Rest in Peace

With SsuperDdave!
Pure acetone will work. You can find it at WM.
