Time has been harsh to this once beautiful coin. Shot while soaking in acetone;

It's coins like these that allow us to truly appreciate the original, uncirculated, pl morgans. Still, that's not an ugly coin by any means.

There is a bad scratch on the obverse you can't see too well in these images, starts behind the 5th star to the left of the date, runs under the chin, through the neck and hair behind, to the first start to the right of the date. Very prevalent in hand. I would grade it MSDET Scratched. Paid $40 on ebay.

Acetone should stop the fingerprint from getting worse but it will never go away. Too bad. It's very sharply struck for the New Orleans Mint.

Looks a heck of a lot better than it did when I got it, I'll tell you that! PVC Galore!

the fingerprint doesn't come off, just wiping with a soft cloth? or is that considered "cleaning"?

You never wipe a coin, it leaves hairline scratches. At this point, given the PVC residue that somehow adhered to the oil of the fingerprints, it will be lightly etched onto the surface of the coin, anyway, so wiping wouldn't remove that, only exacerbate the extant issues with the surfaces, which would look doubly bad as this is a DMPL/PL coin with surfaces akin to a modern proof.
