For over a century we've seen Belgian coins, with inscriptions in French or Dutch or both. In 1887 we are approaching the dawn of Dutch used in coining. For over half a century after 1830, only French was used on Belgian coins... as was the case in education after primary school until well into the 20th century.  Edited by Gwyde

 France, 2 francs, 1887 - Faux d'époque (contemporary counterfeit). One of the more interesting coins in my collection. It's not quite round and it's probably made of something horrible. |

1886 British halfcrown. The halfcrown was not struck for general circulation between 1851 and 1873 as it was assumed that the florin would take its place; however, the denomination remained popular and was reintroduced in 1874.  |

A silver 1886 swiss 2 francs. The same design (going back to 1874) still is used today. Swiss francs were coined in 0.835 silver till 1967.  |
