tough to say even those pics are as big as they are

the strike is strong and it warrants an AU

do you suspect it was cleaned and toned over time?

I really don't know, DS. I paid $100 for it off ebay thinking it was a dime, not a Half Dime because I had a massive brain fart. ebay seller refused to cancel the transaction... so quite honestly, if I can't make at least $10 for my time (Resell for $125) I will return it.

This is the first Half Dime I've owned. Suppose I could always add it to my type set.

Fade, keep in mind that even if you return it, you already spent the time on it.

I think it's a worthy coin for the typeset, so I'd keep it.

Details are AU and I'm not sure it's cleaned.

Any time I return a coin, I provide the seller with my images of it. My way of apologizing for returning it. Although, with this guy, can't understand why he didn't want to cancel the transaction even though he accepts returns. I even told him, if I get it in-hand and don't think it makes MS, I'll return it...

AU details, can't tell if it was cleaned / environmental damage.
Reverse toning is strange.
I'd return it and not waste any more time with it.

looking closer at it I want to say its cleaned and toned over time with some mottled effect on the reverse which looks natural. I think its a very old cleaning and market worthy. I am still 50/50 on this and would have much more confidence with the coin in-hand.

it sounds like a piece of you is unhappy and I would say for $100 and a return policy, send it back. from what you've expressed you're going to try and sell it and make your money but if you dont I am not sure you're conveying you'd truly be happy with this and it might always be "that" coin in your collection.

I love the Seated half dime series. With that said, I am with Night-Hawk and dsfreeworld, I think it was cleaned a long time ago and just retoned. Its a nice coin, but its also a very common date/mm. It sounds like you should return it for a refund. I accidentally bought a Half Cent on ebay once when I thought I was buying a cent. I feel your pain!

Seller agreed to a full refund. Told him he can use my images if he wants in exchange.

Glad you're getting your money back. That coin underwent some rough cleaning.
