I've always wanted one of these but never got around to buying one. With all the Ptolemy coins that have been appearing here lately I had to finally take the plunge and buy one. Now I'm hooked and want more. AE Drachm Ptolemy III 246-222 BC 36mm 43.85 grams Alexandria mint eagle standing left facing right cornucopia over shoulder Eplison between legs Svoronos 974 SNG Cop 224

I'm loving all these large Egyptian coins being posted lately. Yours is no exception. I great balance of obverse and reverse details. All the "good" parts of coin like this are all visible. What sells me on this coin is the patina. I am not sure if I am getting a good idea of the color from the photo but it looks thick, even and gorgeous. The patina is what I find most important with these coins. You can find extremely nice coins with surface deposit/corrosion issues and I don't see that on yours. I would be happy with that example for sure. It has a great balance of authentic wear and strong devices and legends. Sold.

The patina sold me on this coin, it is a very nice rich chocolate brown. It's 4mm thick and the alignment is 11h so it's almost perfect. My scale shows the weight at 44.2 grams a little more than what the seller had.

Check your scale with a newish US nickel should be 5g ish, or a dollar bill a gram. That will tell you if your scale is off and approximately what margin.

Nice ! Pound for pound (or gram for gram) the best bargain to be had of any coin. George III 'cartwheels' are nice ..... but Ptolemaic drachms are great !

There is one of these I am tempted to buy for AUD$100. About the same detail obverse, and a bit better detail reverse. Like some of the others here, I have had the decision to buy on the back burner for way too long.

I once had one at 15mm that I sold for a whole $10 (very nice too !)
I mistakenly listed it 13mm (these old eyeballs play tricks sometimes) and the buyer was so disturbed by this he sent it back ! Well he did probably already have one .....
15mm is I believe the smallest I have 'seen' with these old eyeballs
