No a bank may not have to take coins in, but the reality is that as long as you bank with them they will do. However they have stated that they will not accept these, forcing The Royal Mint to offer a refund on them for upto 6 months according to press reports.
I've seen a couple go for £44.99 on ebay, one listed bnut not sold for £120 (You have to admire the sellers ambition!!) and a few other achieving prices of around £28 to £29 each. Many receive no bids.
