I will begin tonight roll searching quarters for 6 straight weeks where I will be doing 100 dollars worth each hunt.
What I would like to know is are there certain dates to be looking for?
Let my hunt begin......

Surely you know about pre 1965. If not, keep them, they are silver.

Look out for proofs
if you plan on doing $100/week for six weeks, don't take this wrong or be discouraged, but I wouldn't expect to find much. Based on averages - you will be lucky to find a single silver. I hope I am wrong, but I do easily 2-3k/month in quarters and I average 1 silver/$1000
I would recommend either trying to do more money, or go for dimes/nickels.

Ask if they have any half dollars. Statistically those will be better.

why not look for some varieties while they are in front of you ... like 1965 DDO, 1970D DDO etc... some are worth a hundred times more than a regular silver quarters

If you search $100 in quarters everyday for six weeks I bet you will find a Standing Liberty quarter (1916-1930). Good luck!

wheatchaser - I have search over 15k of quarters this year and have yet to find a standing liberty. I search bags from coin counting machines, so I stand a decent chance of finding the mother lode where someone would dump an old bucket of coin or old rolls - not knowing what they had (its happened with halves and dimes before - those are great days).
it all boils down to luck, you could find one, or you may never find one. You could get lucky and find a whole roll worth of them, find dozens in a bag from coin counter, or you may search thousands of dollars worth and not find any silvers at all.
I am not trying to be negative at all, but just trying to temper expectations.

CoinCbass-
I thought bank counters typically reject silver, how do your find rates compare with roll searchers?

The coin counters at the bank I use do not reject silver. I have arrangements with two branches with different models and they both get silver.
My finds roughly compare. I have seen people claim to average 1 silver quarter per 500$ to one per 1500$ on this forum. I average 1 per 1000$ or so. I have the possibility of getting a silver dump, but I can also get coin roll hunter dump. Most of what I get is from regular people and vending machines, etc that are dumped. I I have found two consecutive bags w quarters from the 30's in the past. I have also done 3 bags in a row with zero.
I actually just pounded out a box and got two - 64 and 59 that is BU and shiny for the most part but has gunk on some portions.
Ironic that I just warned about getting your hopes up this morning. My best bag is two, done several times.
Quarters are my least favorite and least productive bags, but that's what they had today. Got another to do in the morning

Ok I have finished the first $ 100 in quarters and no silver or proofs. Thank you all for your suggestions. I do have to check into the varieties mentioned by Snowman.
These quarters are all cwr from a credit union I frequent every week. I see lots of different people in there but especially the older folk who deposit coins there. Well can't wait to see what Friday brings.

Hi all, well week 2, another $ 100 in cwr in quarters net nothing. No proofs, no silver, no varities. Although I did have a lot of 1966, 1967 and 1969 quarters overall. It seems what was said above is true.

Quote: I see lots of different people in there but especially the older folk who deposit coins there. That's going to work against you. If there's any group in our population that's educated on US silver coinage, it's the older folks. Even when it comes down to paying for the groceries with rolled up change, the elderly will keep their silver until their final rest. I know many that have, including my grandparents. Either way, good luck in the hunt.

Wisconsin high low leaf. Hawaii extra islands. 1976 that weighs over 5.67 (could be escaped from 40% silver commemorative set.) 79-81 filled-clear S varieties Any proof that weighs 6.25 I save some of the regular 76s with strong marks.
