I understand what causes the wood grain look (woodies) on copper cents. What would cause it on a copper-nickel clad dime? I guess copper-nickel would be an alloy, wouldn't it? Would it be an improper alloy mix? It only shows on the obverse. Thanks all!

It is the first I have seen also, coop. It is actually more noticeable to the naked eye than through the scope pics. It's odd, that's for sure.

That is strange... Wooden Nickels I've heard of, but Wooden Dimes?

I can see it, it runs from basically Roosevelts' mouth towards the back part of the neck. Sort of sorta South-South-West to North-North-East.
I bet is looks like almost an earth sediment line if it is held eye level.

Could be the way the planchet sheet was composed.

There used to be a eatery near my old stomping grounds that was called the Wooden Nickel. It was around for decades before it closed down. Newer generations probably didn't have a clue what the place was and the business was hurting. As far as I can remember, I didn't see a sign that amplified what it sold. It was located at a fast paced intersection and in/out access was kind of awkward, which also added to its demise. I often wonder if one of Coop's coins just above could have bought me a free meal. Now, one will never know if the wooden nickel was honored at the wooden nickel. The Wooden Nickel (eatery) was in Norfolk, VA if you all care to endulge in what the establishment looked like. The where abouts of Coop's Wooden nickel is currently unknown.

The one I have is for a café in Ajo (Pronounced A'ho), AZ called the "Copper Coffee Shop". It used this for a while for a free cup of coffee with your meal. A friend gave me this one at a coin show. He said when they did away with the wooden nickels, they gave them him.
