Hello, and thanks for any responses. Down to some of the tougher coins in this series, and am bidding on this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-Standi...310788372444 I see this as somewhat weak for a 25,more 20ish. Which is fine as it will be right at home in my collection. What do think my highest bid should be, tough question I know. Secondly, since it might not go 25 again should I leave it in the slab? Thanks in advance for all those that share their knowledge.

Can't say anything as to what you should bid but I completely agree with you and you should check pcgs.com/auctionprices to see what they've sold for in the past.

I agree that it may be 20ish instead....if it were me, I'd go no higher than $500 if you like the coin. I would leave it in the slab.

its a tad bit overgraded at 25 compared to archive auction listings I just reviewed. two hammered this year in March and April at $529 and $605, respectively. Neither of those coins are this serial number. Both of those coins have readable dates compared to this one. I would not go at all on this coin knowing that you can hunt down through other auction sites and avenues for a readable date in an NGC VF25. You might wait a few years, but they're out there. Then again, you may find one next month.

good luck either way sir

I agree with dsfreeworld. For the price, I would wait for a VF example with a better date. It may cost a little more, but it is worth it in the long run. The serious SLQ collectors (particularly those collecting circulated ones) prefer strong dates (all 4 digits eligible).

I think I know what you mean by a better date, something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-STANDI...50918468602? all joking aside, thanks for all the sage advice. I did look up auctions, and got a lot better feel for what can be had in this grade range.

That listing is in violation of ebay rules.

" Coins minted before 1980 must show the full front and back of the holder. Coins minted in 1980 or after must show the full front of the holder. "

Interesting rule; I hadn't heard of it, nor have I ever shown the full reverse of a TPG holder in the 14 years I've been selling. Could you link me to it on ebay?

Well, it's a nice coin because it has honest wear and character, but I dont like the fact that the date is that hard to read. I dont mind if half the date is worn, because I have a 1917-S SLQ like that. But IMHO I wouldnt buy it because I can hardly read the date from the picture. Only 1 number is visible, and to be honest, it hardly looks like a 1.
