Copper, Copper and maybe a bit more Copper. Love the fact that Large Cents/Half Cents were the workhorse coinage of early America. Not everyone ever had halfs (love them too) but most everyone had a cent or Half Cent in their pocket.

Anything without a dead politician on it ... and priced way under market. Sometimes I even make exceptions for the politicians .... but it's gonna have to be cheap.

My #1 is the Two Cent Piece followed by Early coppers, 1/2 cents, Large cents, and and any earlier US coinage, plus Morgan dollars by VAMs. Eventually I will probably also get into colonial period stuff.

I didn't vote as there needs to be a lot more categories on that list, none of my favorites are included.

I like half dollars like a Franklin and Walking Liberty set. Heck I would even consider a Kennedy set.

Really like Mercury dimes and LWC/LMC series. Gold coins are fun too, but they get pricey quick.

Lots of different types missing from this poll such as the 1/2 dime. However, I doubt that those missing would make the top ones anyway. I wonder how many try to collect those 20 cent coins.

At present it is the JFK Half b/c I had stopped collecting activity in the late 80s and now am trying to get the set up to date. It is also the first set I ever decided to collect proofs for. Besides that, I like roll searching for the errors/RPMs/clashes/etc.

I also stopped Washington's when the State Quarters came out as I perceived these as nothing more than a marketing ploy so never got interested in getting a set. Also, most of the clad ones were made in such great numbers they will actually depreciate in value over thee years as the dollar keeps losing value.

but I am NOT slamming these - I can see how the quarters made a great way for kids to get interested in "filling a book." its just personal preference, and admittedly I have thought about a set of the silver proof issues - they are absolutely beautiful in an album.

Whichever set I'm trying to build at the moment. Currently, it's Washingtons. Day in and day out though, I'm a Morgan kinda guy. PG
