Folks,
My brother passed away recently, and I inherited his coin collection. He had a coin that I don't think existed in circulation. It is a 1901 Morgan silver dollar. When I looked at the mint mark, it is clearly CC. The odd thing is that I understood the Carson City mint stopped producing coins years before this. Does anyone know of any special minting at the CC mint?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ken

Welcome to CCF! Unfortunately your coin is definitely a fake. The Carson City Mint stopped producing coins long before 1901. However this coin may still be composed of silver. Post pictures to get a better opinion.

Welcome, Kensanders32. As zxcccxz said, it's not possible for your coin to be real. There was no minting equipment left in the Carson City Mint by 1901, even if someone had wanted to strike something.

Thank you for the information, and for you condolences.

I will probably be on the forum a lot, in the future.

If you can post a picture, that would be great....even though it's a fake, it's good for us collectors to see these coins so that we may know more about them.
