Subject line says it all. I have a 1878 CC Morgan MS65 for sale and would like to know what auction sight does everyone recommend? I have used ebay in the past but with the cost of Fees for using eBay/Paypal going up figured I would look at other options. Thanks in Advance

I'm going to guess that your coin is in a reputable TPG slab; if it isn't, you won't get 65 money for it and most of the alternatives I'm going to suggest won't even accept the coin raw. Another consideration is, of the venues where you'll get a realistic audience for a $1500 coin, ebay is probably still the cheapest. The alternatives are the coin-oriented auction houses like Heritage, Teletrade, Great Collections and the like. They tend to put more of the cost burden on the buyer than the seller, but buyers factor that cost into their bids as a result. One advantage is you'll see a more sophisticated customer with a more realistic idea of the value of the coin; auctions at those venues rarely end with drastic losses for the seller as ebay can sometimes. I wouldn't have recommended ebay for a coin of this caliber, anyway. They're increasingly being deserted by buyers in that range.

Nice coin! If you can rack up some posts on this forum, you can put the coin on auction here on this website. I think you need 250 posts to do so though.

@LowLife I don't think this website would be any good as far as getting this coin sold quick at the price he wants.

Thanks everyone, I guess after looking at all the different auction houses I will post on ebay since I already have an account.

Great Collections is a good option. No seller's fee and a 10% buyer's fee nets you 90% of the total price.

Thanks for the warning. Any idea what a good estimate on what they are selling for?

FadeToBlack's post kind of illustrates my point about ebay's iffyness. The sales prices shown from ebay are higher than those from the archives of Heritage and Great Collections, but those are the only 6 out of 34 auctions which actually ended in a sale. In all honesty, though, many of the non-sales had unrealistic opening bids/Buy It Nows. Some of them didn't reach Reserves/BIN's set lower than some of the successful sales.

I think, given the OGH, with some half-decent images, it will clear $1600 with ease provided it isn't overgraded. And do yourself a favor, get some real images taken of it before selling it. Send it to Todd Pollock or something. It's not a $100 widget, it's a $1500-$1750 semi-rarity. It deserves some nice images.
If you're going with a true 7 day auction ending on a Sunday night and you have some decent feedback ratings right now, you'll be fine.
