A couple years ago I started collecting the $1 Presidential Coins, but I'm beginning to wonder if they're are no longer being circulated because I haven't seen any in a while. Is the only way to acquire these coins now to purchase them straight from the mint? Does anybody know if my local bank would have any of these type of coins?
Thanks, CC

Only made for collectors for the last couple years, not minted for circulation anymore.

People don't use them and stores don't stock their tills with them so they never get handed out as change. Seems so senseless to keep producing these when there are billions of these sitting in government vaults. There really isn't any demand for these to be used in everyday commerce.

They do not circulate because our leaders are incompetent and will not eliminate the one dollar note. Remove it and the dollar coins will circulate widely.

When I buy $25 dollar rolls from my bank I get mostly Presidential dollars and just 2-3 Susan B's. Sorry, forgot about the Sacagaweas, usually get a couple of those too.

All of the previous answers are correct. The only truly circulated coins out anymore are the cent, nickel, and dime. ATB Quarters are out there (somewhere) but never seen in pocket change. When the news came out about the Presidential dollars being no longer circulated I too was miffed. I've had to buy them second hand since. I've bought most of my later Presidential dollars online, some others at shows. I'm thinking about buying everything from the Mint next year even though there will be some stuff I don't really need/collect, just because it will be easier to deal with one 'seller' than ten. Good luck with your collecting future!

There are plenty of ATBs and Pres dollars circulating. It just depends on the area you are in. I see them all the time in my register.

I've found 3 ATB Quarters in Canada so far... they are certainly out there.

I do not actively collect these but I look forward to getting these in the proof and Uncirculated Annual sets I order, but an issue I get with these coins when I come across them in circulation is they're in bad shape.
I cannot remember getting one of these coins in good shape, they usually have ugly discoloring or they're just beat up. But again, I'm not going to the bank asking to search hundreds or thousands of these coins and I don't see a lot of them. So even if you get em, you might not find em in good shape.
I'm curious to see if people that hunt for these find them easily in good shape?

I have a few Presidential dollars that a friend brought back from a trip to Denver last year. Look forward to filling in some gaps on my next trip to the USA! A few weeks ago a colleague of mine was in Miami and he got a Presidential dollar in change. He knows I collect coins but he wouldn't give me that coin, as he said it had his portrait on it! His name... James Buchanan!

I've been finding uncirculated condition Presidential dollars of the ones minted in mass quantities from the bank for my collection. Chester A Arthur (2012) and beyond is nearly impossible to find in the wild. I've been getting those off of ebay usually for about $2.50 per coin. At some point I'd like to order a box of rolls from the mint. It would be fun to search through it; and you could probably resell the rolls and coins on ebay for a slight profit.
