Hi again, I joined this family last year with a baggie full of my first gathered coins. I quickly became excited about "error" coins, and I had lots. So, I found the perfect place(here)to show them off. I started right off the bat sending pic's to you guys. My excitement soon turned to dismay when all I showed you turned out to be PMD, gunk, road kill, etc. I had 3 actual error coins out of the entire bag. You guys are very smart, and very HONEST. Painfully honest sometimes. I've studied my head off for over a year and kept up with these postings. Now, hopefully, I can get Something right, some of the time, when looking at coins. So, I'm taking a big chance sending these pictures. I have this Morgan at VAM 8...VF. What do you say. Thank you for listening and looking.

A 8tf VAM-8 was the first VAM I identified out of all my Morgan's.. With the reassurance of members here of course. First off, is there any way you could get clearer pics? And possibly a close up of the date? It's just your pics are a bit blurry and hard to make out... So it's a bit difficult to tell.. And being pretty well circulated doesn't make it easier. I'm not sure it is a VAM-8, really hard to tell with these pics. Here's a few pics of mine for you to compare yours too.. Things I can't see in your pics.. Does yours have these die cracks on the date? Going into the 1 both low and high. Here's the stick feather, polished leaves and spots in the bow. And does yours have doubling up the whole left (while looking at coin) including letters, wreath and wing?

Although I can see the detached leaf characteristic of that VAM, the images are far too small to resolve the critical feather configurations at the leg, or see any die cracks which might be additional proof. In fact, what I *can* see of the leg/feather intersection tends to indicate that it's not VAM-8, which has one feather (the "Stick Feather" for which it's named) sticking out on its' own. Unfortunately, we need clear images at least double this size to even begin. I think I'm on board with your grade, though.

SsuperDdave, lol, this is the 2nd time in a month or so we've posted at the same time regarding a 8tf VAM-8... But I'm leaning towards it not being a VAM 8... The stick feather doesn't look right. And it might be just that it's worn but the polished leaves don't look quite the same either, in the full reverse pic they don't look polished at all, but in the close up they do, just not to the extent of the 8. I wasn't sure if the OP could post better pics that's why I posted the date and doubling pics for comparison... Then allcoinsnewbie can compare and let us know if better pics would be a challenge...

No cracks near date and no reverse doubling. I was following VW attributing 8tf guide, and when I got to the L&R feathers it said it's VAM 8. The bow and disconnected leaves convinced me. I'm still learning about pic's too. Can't figure out optimizer. I get it resized, but get no further. Hope these help.

Abandon the Optimizer. Get a Photobucket account and post the stuff full-size here. Here's xshift's just-updated tutorial for posting images from Photobucket: https://goccf.com/t/53146I don't see VAM-8 in the (viewer's) left-side leg feathers. Not sure which exactly I see - could be a few different ones - but VAM-8's features in that location seem more "tucked-in" than what I think I'm seeing here. Still too small to be certain, though.

I *think* I'm seeing the 14.2/14.15/14.20 reverse there. It's too small to be sure, and as long as you post *anything* in a 250-pixel box it's always going to be too small. I'm sorry, that's how VAMming is.

Don't get discouraged, VAMing is pretty hard work, many VAMs share certian characteristics and have to be narrowed down little by little. Painstakingly tedious sometimes... Others quite easy. And if I'm not mistaken there's lots of 8tf's that share certian likenesses, not all exact but close, so don't worry about it, your doing great so far! Unfortionitely I don't believe it's a VAM-8. I think SsuperDdave may be right with the reverse... Still hard to tell with the photos though..

14.2 it is. I have to resize pic's to 250 so CCF will post. Will try Photobucket. Also studied 14.2, 14.15, 14.18, 19 & 20. Whew! At least I'll NEVER make that mistake again. Sad to say, I sold a 14.2 a few days ago. Actually, you guys attributed it for me last year when I gave up on "errors" and got hooked on Morgans, so didn't study the coin again. It was VF. Got $60.00. As usual, I learned a ton of stuff from you today. Can't ever thank you enough. Do you all ever sleep?

Quote: Do you all ever sleep? I work overnights. Long, 12-hour shifts when I do, but I only work 7 shifts every 14 days. When I'm off work, you'll see me here for continuous, long periods including overnights (EST time zone) but when I'm working I'm gone for two or three days at a time. 14.2 is available into high grades, so selling one unattributed isn't a loss. It doesn't really carry a premium.
