I guess the title says it all and I am not a bullion type but I thought the condition and sheer quantity were 10/10 for both. I understand there is approx. £8.50 in old money and over 100 coins.

Very very nice! I'm not much for scrap either these days (After my scrap buying escapade which ended in me buying 2000 coins which netted over 250oz) but those coins are is such nice condition with such nice eye appeal that I'd scoop em up in a heartbeat.

I would think that each 1945 Half Crown in UNC like these would fetch £10 each or more.....should be about 100 of them..so think I did well.......but took a chance as really no idea about such coins.........keep me busy for a while.

Could be a gamble depending on what was paid. An Unc 1945 books at £5 .....EF @ BV.(Collectors coins GB 2013) I can't imagine a tub full of coins being Unc.

I agree with Peter on this one (first time for everything). The chances of a tub full like that being UNC is pretty low. They all seem nice and clean though........ *cough, Like they have never been touched......... *cough, as if they had been minted yesterday with no dirt what so ever........ *cough.

I've got my fingers crossed (USA sentiment) that it works out for you ... looking forward to the follow-up message where you report on the findings.

Thanks Met I've a good mind to change my mind now. However if more £250 was paid I predict tears.

It's a horrible fact Peter, that a lot of collectors believe that if a coin is sparkling clean and has detail its UNC. You and I both know what is what, this is why we had a disagreement Looking at the OP's picture we can clearly see all the coins have the same look, i.e. dipped. I agree again, if the price was good then nice deal, even if for the silver alone. Please don't change your mind, I am far too old and fat to stay up debating this one

I'm still positive at the moment.....this was not a one off tub....I am not always a fan of Auction House descriptions but were described as Good EF to UNC....if you look on e-bay...such coins sell for $10 t0 £15 so book value irrelevant.
Having blown the photo up the milled edges look sharp and an detail looks high....so we'll see on arrival..
And another issue... someone who hoarded and dipped these might find it hard to get all the same date....

If there's one thing I've noticed about this forum and I appreciate some people have more knowledge in their little fingernail than I do is that those same people are also overly rigid when it comes to 'book price'. I remember peter1234 when asked about a 1700's shilling value once said 'bullion value only' when they were selling for £30 on ebay in same condition. This isn't a pop at Peter (as I enjoy his grizzly grading standards a lot!) but more of a question - why do people overlook current final prices on ebay so much?

Coins, houses, used vehicles a pair of worn old shoes, it makes no difference, an item really is worth what someone will pay for it. The guide books are great, but that really is all they are, a guide. :)

ebay prices tend to be high for worn tat.Especially for stuff over 200 years old. Why anyone wants a silloet coin or one with a dam great hole in it beats me. For the seller; Once the ebay, paypal, postage, packing, physically posting fees are Ddt...ummm and coins never go missing do they? Guide books are just that...guides. I know hundreds of coins for which the guide books are blatantly incorrect (both up and down). Maybe ebay buyers are suckered into thinking junk is a much higher grade than it really is. I do think a grading book needs to be on a few peoples Xmas list.
