Huh. This is one of the less convincing fakes. The slab gives it away.

Looked at the feedback and it looks like one was already sold.

The real coin is listed in a PCGS registry set if you want to see it. Has this been reported?

The Heritage auction linked at the PCGS Cert Verification site is more telling, as it clearly shows the differing kerning in the type on the real slab. I reported it.

Quote: Has this been reported? The plot thickens ..... (info from another forum which will remain nameless here). Apparently the 'real' coin has been also listed on ebay as well. Wonder if the seller actually has the coin in hand or is just using the pictures from the Heritage sale? Could be a another hijacked account using Heritage's photos. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1852-O-50C-...em4615b3768c

The heritage pictures and that ebay listing are the exact same. Whether or not they actually have the coin is any ones guess. I probably would use heritages pictures too if they were available since they are good pictures, but the fact theyve never sold anything before is suspicious

excuse me, but it looks like it has minor rim dings around 10-11:00
If that is true then wouldn't PCGS reject it or give it a details rating? Anybody know how this works?

mdh, it's a Chinese fake, slab and coin. PCGS never touched it.

I understand that verm, but one thing I noticed was what appears to be damage which would raise my eyebrow even if the slab didn't.
And as we all know you buy the coin for it's look, you do not buy a slabbed coin that doesn't fancy you no matter what the grade is. For someone that does not buy a lot of slabbed coins, that's what i'd be looking at - the fake slab might get it by me because my slab knowledge is limited.

I see what you mean now. Yeah, that would be a brow raiser alone.

I'm not worried; it's Sunday. The second auction leaves me wondering as well. No Feedback in the last year, and all of a sudden selling a $1000 coin? It sold for $1725 at Heritage in 2010. At least the coin depicted looks like the actual one in the slab.
