For some reason, the greysheet suggests high values for low grade 1905 barbers, although it has quite a high mintage.

Any thoughts on why this happens / the grade of this coin?

(purchased for 23$).

Thanks for looking .

I think that one could grade out at VF20ish
Modest mintage 662k

Very nice coin

-edited to add: As long as it isn't cleaned..
Pics are bright, a little washed out so hard to tell.

Night-Hawk, I think I might have confused you as I wrote "1905 Barber Half" while I meant a quarter.

The quarter has significantly higher mintage, but still listed as more valuable than most years.

Haha thanks! Heck of a deal for a 1905 half!

Do you have it in hand? Pics are a little washed out.
Looks around F12 from here. Hopefully not cleaned.
Otherwise looks ok, nice rims and all. Not up on the prices
for these, PCGS price guide shows $25. for a slabbed one in F12.
(may be out of date).

Edited to add: I was just curious and checking completed ebay
auctions on these, I see a heck of lot worse going for much more.
Surprising what these are bringing nowadays..

25 Cents was a sweet spot, spending-wise, during that era. Despite the mintage, they circulated very heavily and as a result there was a lot of attrition. It's a straight-up Condition Rarity in MS; prices approach equivalent Proofs. You'll find a similar pattern among most Quarters of the time.

I'm wondering since 1903 for example is listed at less than half the price for example, and so is almost every quarter from 1907 OE later.

From the pics, I'd say F15 details.
