I picked this 28 Peace up from the same set as the 34. Not a heavily circulated coin, but some dummy gave it a cleaning and there are a few very light scratches on the obverse. Cleaning not withstanding I think it is low AU. The reverse is in better shape and doesn't appear as heavily cleaned. Am I correct that the TPGs would slab it with a details grade?

Some 1928 Peace dollars are going on ebay for $250-300 in much worse shape than this one. I am debating on whether to sell it or just hold on to it as a decent hole filler in my set. Thoughts? Thanks!

Def. cleaned. Can't really tell from the pics if it's AU Det or MS Det. I don't see much, if any, wear.

No offense, it is a great looking coin, but details is details. Whether it is XF or AU because it was cleaned, does it make a difference ?

I would sell it, some people don't mind cleaned coins, and use the money to buy an unaltered coin.

Not if he throws it in his pocket and totes it around for a year or so.

The above suggestion is a good one considering it's a 1928 and not much price fluctuation in circulated grades.

Would carrying it around for a year smooth it up and make it a low AU or something? Do you carry it with other coins or by itself? I would seriously consider this just because I don't like looking at the coin as it currently sits.

Carry it in the same pocket with your other change - it's in that interaction between carried coins where the "improvement" happens.

This subject has come up often enough in the last few days that I think it's time to address the larger picture with a "dedicated" thread. Look in the Main Coin Forum in a few minutes.

I can't bring myself to stick in my pocket and wear it down, but I may just keep it to fill a hole in an album for now. When I look at this picture of it looks hideous, but in hand it is fairly appealing minus some light scratches. I think from arm's length away in an album it will serve its purpose until I find a suitable upgrade.
