I recently acquired a pair of 1893-S Morgan silver dollars. In the past I have always purchased them slabbed from NGC/PCGS/ANACS/ICG. This is my first time purchasing this date/mint raw. I know there is only one die used for this date, I know about common altering with 1883-S, etc. I worry because the fakes from China are not as sloppy/obvious as they once were. I am by no means an expert, though am not new to the hobby. Before I cannot get a refund I wanted experts opinion on these coins. Thank you in advance for your opinions/responses, as they are welcomed and much appreciated friends. I am on the fence on these coins.

Both fakes.
The date is a dead giveaway (The Numbers Don't look Correct).

I started by checking the date position against the only obverse die and it is wrong on both of your examples. It is lucky for us the chinese have not paid attention to the fine details, YET.

I was thinking it was to good to be true, especially for what I paid, though this was an internet purchase. These will be returned. Thank you for the replies gentlemen. Now the joy of contacting the seller, who has perfect feedback and informing him of my intent to return for a full refund. Nothing like the drive of shame to the post office to return a cleaned/altered/fake coin. At least I can get a refund. Again, thank you!

Canadian -- I see exactly what you are talking about. Thank you. I always seem to learn the most when I get burned on a deal, haha. Upon further inspection, yes, they both have weak details compared to my other Morgans. Hopefully one day I will be able to notice the better fakes from photos prior to going through with a deal. Oh ebay...

Dave -- I agree, it is only a matter of time before they have the technology to make them exact. Some of the fake PCGS (chinese) slabs are pretty close, though a trained eye can spot the fakes. It is a shame, hurts the hobby.

I agree, date is a give away.
I also don't like that mark on the reverse, on both coins. Looks like a raised dot, under the "N" in united.

After you get your $$$ back, if you do....this person should be reported to the proper authorities.

Not a chance. There are "dead giveaway" attributes for 1893-S Morgans, and this causes me to plead with you to learn things like those attributes before you again attempt to purchase coins like raw 1893-S's.
