Just curious if anyone here collects proofs as separate sets?
I have always wanted to see a complete Lincoln Proof set in all it's forms. Early matte proofs next to the 1936 through 1942 next to the 1950-1964 and the 1968s to present? I think that would be pretty wild to see.
I've also wanted to see proof sets from all the denominations like that. Nickles, dimes, quarters, etc...
I've been thinking of starting the Lincoln proof set in a blank album and downgrading my 8100 to the 7100 so I can see them all in a row.
Anyone else do or done this? Pics?

I'm currently finishing up a Canadian small cent proof collection. They look amazing when paired up beside their business strike cousins.

Australia has issued for collectors only, mint and proof sets, where business strikes were never issued for general circulation. In some years, some denominations, but not all, were issued for circulation. Complete mint and proof sets only were issued in those years. It is easy to pick coins from mint sets; they don't have bag marks. They do have the the useful function of filling holes in Danscos for missing years.
Examples of definitive coins issued in mint packs but not for circulation include 20 Cents 1986-92, and 50 Cents 1986-7. Of course, there is a bucket load of NCLT commemorative coins that were never issued for circulation, in all metals. These issues number in the hundreds. If you want to completely muck up a Dansco set with NCLT's, this is the way to do it!

I'm assembling a proof-only Presidential dollar set. Not done with it so I don't have pictures, but if/when I finish it, I will post it.

Quote:I'm assembling a proof-only Presidential dollar set. Oops ... I forgot Yes .... I to have a Dansco date set for Presidential dollars, with just proofs. I also have some Dansco Date set quarter albums with just proofs. Also I did a half dollar Dansco album, that has no labels on the pages. I call it my life book, 1958 to date. I put a proof half dollar for every year I have been on this planet. Sometime in the future I hope to add pictures. I put this together ... just to pass down. And yes, proof albums do look good. I thought I had pictures on file, but can't find them. If possible I will take some .... when I find time.

I gave up trying to get these things from circulation. Not being able to see the edge in a Dansco made it pointless to collect P and D. I added "proof only" (blank) pages to my Jefferson (7113) and Roosevelt (7125) Dansco albums. So I do have a proof-only thing going there, for a few pages at least.

I've been working on a proof 20th century type set. Every type that was made in proof is a proof except the Peace dollar. Everything else is MS.

strange you ask this question now... I just finished my State Quarter set (just the 50 states) I am now compiling a set of the same in proof. I acquired 2 State Quarter Danscos, first P/D is from circulation roll hunting. The second will be Clad then silver P/D slots respectively. clad set is almost done, silver not even started.

GR58 Your combination of preservation and display I believe, is the best for proof coins. Just make sure that you are using NON PVC album pages.

GR58 those look great! I may someday start a proof Lincoln set and try to someday (and I mean someday) complete it in it's entirety but I was looking at prices for the mid 50's and down to 36 and those alone would be worth more than my entire business strike collection IF I ever finish that! Then, looking at the Matte proofs... I'm gonna have to win a small lottery for that one... :)

Funny I find this topic, earlier today I was just considering starting a full proof set. My funding isn't the greatest right now, so I was thinking I might start with Presidential dollars or the Sacagawea/Native American dollars. GR58: I like the Jefferson collection you've got there!
