Just managed to buy this lot.......and I am well chuffed! This hoard features in Bill Wyman's metal detecting book and the silvers/billon have never been sold to the public before (I am told) I am forming a collection to include, (where possible) coins from famous coin hoards.

Very nice. Far right, 2nd row third from the left, 1st row 3rd and 5th from the left, 4th row far right and 5th row 2nd from the left are good types.

Roman Gallic empire 3rd Century Billon antininiani, first pics coins of Postumus, greater silver content. Second pile bronze, but with tiny silver content, would have been silver washed I think and many still have traces of silvering. Part of a 4100 strong hoard found in 2000 in the UK. I picked from this lot a few years back, Ben picked at the start of the summer and I had another go and was handed the silver.

Most of them, yes. There are a few I will keep, but the majority will go to fund my collection. with hoard provenance they are worth quite a bit more hopefully and also because of the reference in Bill Wymans book.

They have beautiful details and portraits as they are cleaned by the British museum and Gallics always turn out well. Some people think the rough flans are damaged, but thats just the way they were struck. Gallics are my favourite Roman coin as they have very Romantic looking bearded portraits and a certain rustic appearance which I love to bits. I sold a few Marius from this lot years ago....

Just realised - this means I can put a name to the hoard mine are from! Excellent.

Yep....although none sold to date will have been allocated to the hoard which has been sold at collectors fairs etc. what a loss, shame. also, the guy who found them, Jay, has not been giving this provanance and has missed out in my opinion. I checked out the BM report as well. sadly, not a lot left and certainly nothing of any quality IMO.......not after I had 530 anyway!!

Id keep them entirely seperate! And it does seem weird that he didnt give the provenance. I asked him about it and he was a bit of an arse about it. Heres my Mossy Bottom Barn Hoard coins. 1 Quintillus, 3 Gallienus', 2 Claudius IIs. One is a mint error: Better do a write up.
