Just got this back in change:   Not in perfect condition and definitely not silver, but still cool to see. I think I'll give it to my 8-year-old for his collection. |

Nowadays a stray proof and wheat cents are all that seem to be out there in circulation.

Happens a lot due to kids robbing their family coin collection, criminals robbing homes, robbing coin stores, etc.

You also see the occasional base metal NCLT and proof coins in Australia as well. Generally, with the base metal versions, if they have been impaired by circulation, they are not worth much more than the business strike coins.
I take them from circulation anyway because they are unusual, and cost me face value only. I have never seen silver proof NCLT's in circulation.

Nice find.
I have found a few proof cents and nickels and quite few proof halves roll searching but have never got one back in change.

Last week I found a proof Millard Fillmore prez golden dollar at the bank where I work as a teller. I've also gotten a '73-S proof Eisenhower (clad) the same way.
