This one kind of looks like a die in need of polishing or replacing..but just a guess, nice find though.

Looks like an acid coin, eddio, or one dunked in coke for a day or two...

I been searching acid coins but they all seem to be evenly eaten away, similar to what a sandblaster might do. My only other thought is maybe there was a very thin layer of oil on the planchet when struck. What appear to be roller lines on the obverse run through everything and still its ripply..

The orange peel effect is usually due to a penny dipped in acids...so I just read.

Sorry eddio Iam at a loss. Just when I think its one thing it turns out it could be another. The only way the rim could be leftout is someone may have poured acid just inside the penny. I'll research it today some more and see what I find. I read in another forum called "coin talk" about the orange peel effect. We need an expert here to confirm what this is. I've seen rippled pennies sell on ebat for 4 figures, but are they acid or error I dont know. By the way thats nice rippling on the last pic.

Interesting comparison! I'm thinking that an acid-bathed penny would weigh a wee bit less and be slightly smaller than a true rippled penny. How does yours compare to a regular 1970 cent, eddio?
