Great idea TJ. I only have one and I love it! Vermontensium gave me advice and guidance because I was clueless - thanks Dave!

I like the Fugio's too, this is my favorite one. It's a cross after date variety with UNITED STATES reverse found while metal detecting in central CT. I've dug about eight Fugio's but this is the best of the bunch

Cipster, fantastic Fugio! I have just attributed it as 19-SS. Am I right; I was moving fast? SCDave,...you what?...Dug 8 Fugios! That is way COOL! BTW, your Fugio is fantastic too! But aren't they all!:D Do you have a reverse pick? And can you show the other seven? I am greedy when it comes to Fugios.

Nice coins guys! Since my main focus are the Vermont Coppers, this is currently my only one. Dug (not by me) in a Colonial home site cellar in Massachusetts. I believe it's 16-H

My Newman 9-p, the subject of my very first post on the forum. Picked it up in my pre-teen years, and thirty-odd years later got the Continental Currency note that's now my avatar, to match it. I only recently noticed that the reverse die is clashed, which is a die state not noted for the variety in the definitive text on Fugio coppers. When you discover a nugget of numismatic knowledge unknown even to the great Eric P. Newman, you're having a good day!

Rockin Fugios everyone! Keep em coming! There has to be more out there! Poor ground finds or better, they are all a great little piece of history! I wonder if Ben Franklin himself ever got to hold one of these in his hands?

Quote: I wonder if Ben Franklin himself ever got to hold one of these in his hands? TJ - An earlier thread about Benjamin Franklin's connection to fugios inspired me to read his biography by Walter Isaacson. He was an amazing founding father and diplomat.

The bulk of the Fugio mintage went to the Treasury on May 21, 1788. Franklin's last major public appearance was at the Constitutional Convention the summer before, where he had been noted already to be in poor health. He was infrequently seen thereafter, until he died at home April 17, 1790. If he ever held a Fugio, someone would have had to bring one to his deathbed, and presumably avoid bringing up the topic of the coiner having been indicted and fleeing the country. Remember, Franklin created the Fugio design for paper money that was issued twelve years earlier!
