hi I don't know much about coins, but I was going through some interesting coins I found and one of them is this dime it seems to be missing the last number though so it's 199 on the dime. just wondering if this is a mint error or just really dulled out and if its worth more than 10 cents? let me know thanks :)

It could be that the presses were either filled with grease or die chips from the strikes. When a die number or letter gets full of something, then it will either leave a weak number or letter, or nothing at all.

Additionally there are pranksters out there that will use emery cloth or other means to sand away a letter, number of other part of a coin to make people like us scratch our heads.

The coin looks circulated. I am also looking at part of the coin past LIBERTY, near Roosevelt's head on the rim, I don't know if thats another area of concern or not. From the original pic, it looks like letters, but I cannot be for certain

Its tough to say what actually happened without a close up of the date area. It doesn't have to be super close, and if your camera has a MACRO setting, you should be able to zoom in as close as you wish. If an additional pic of the date, that may also include the mint mark ( I think its a "P" - for Philadelphia) it would help us out a lot.

It might be a slight Grease Filled Die error. I've seen these before:

The rim looks full in that area, so I don't feel your coin is altered. Not a large premium for these. They are common. I still have mine.

Hello all!! I have this EXACT SAME dime with the date cut off,, also the "I" in 'in' and the "G" in 'God' is somewhat clipped-

Is this one worth hanging onto? (I can post a pic if anyone wants to see it)
