I'm still learning all of the correct terms in coin collecting. What are these called: The glob in the 6 on the date. The 8 & 9 on the date looks weird. I know there's a name for it! lol

cool, your "learning", "terms"...me too..any hoot, 1st-6 (in date) is a: die chip..2nd - based upon picture hard to tell, yet from other portions of pic. could very well be MDD= mechanical die damage. MDD is when the coin is secondarily impressed with "devices (doubling of original devices) by a chattering effect of either the coin itself or the "machine" it which the dies are "loosely" mounted or the machine itself "chatters". resulting a "secondary" impression of original 'devices'.MDD is seen as 'secondary' "doubling" towards the south/west of ORG. devices. reference the skull-west and south 'doubling ' of the horns (west one shows nicely) eye sockets ect.* NOTE - Die Cuds are 'termed' as being next to rim. Cuds are large die chips (very large) in terms : though exclusive too the position IE: including the rim portion of a coin (='s) Cud. also noted being the same as a die break ;of sorts , with the location being the "term" determination factor.hope that I've written this up correctly - and that it's of use.

Wow, thanks for the lesson! Here's some more shots, the first one was shot at an angle, so you can see the 9 better to determine if it is a MDD or not. The second pic is just another shot.

I think the Montana is simple post mint damage that occured by the coin being in circulation. Looks like dents to me rather than a Cud or an error, just damage.

Do you mean pm damage on the lower part of the 9 on the date? I don't see how wear and tear could cause it, without there being some kind of damage around it. But coins are a crazy hobby, so anything goes and I'm constantly learning. Thanks for commenting, Sleaklight.
OK, coppercoins, I usually give you the final say in my questions! Where ya at?

The term Cud always - ALWAYS - refers to a piece broken off the EDGE of the die. Neither of these are Cuds. They are small die chips, a small piece broken out of the middle of the die. They are common.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary on the Montana quarter - maybe a little damage from a hit on the date, but nothing more than that.

Thanks again CC. Is there a link to somewhere that has proper names with pictures?

I don't know. I don't collect errors so I haven't ever searched for such a place. Just use Google.
