Hi CCF'ers,

I struggled with where to ask this question, ultimately I'm looking for a Canadian viewpoint so I thought I'd ask here...

I'm going down to Texas this winter to visit the in-laws, they spend 4 months of the year there. I've been thinking about placing an order through one of the big US bullion sites (APMEX, Provident, etc) and getting it delivered to their place in Texas. Those sites have a wider selection and cheaper shipping than any Canadian options.

The problem I'm encountering is that all these sites require the billing and shipping addresses to be the same for credit card orders. I'd rather not send them a cheque, with all of the waiting and payment clearing that goes on with that.

Has anyone successfully done what I'm trying to do here? Are there any sites that allow a different shipping address from the billing address?

Some places are more stringent than others. Perhaps its also a matter of the dollar value of the order.

I was able to order from Talisman (a US website). I was located in Canada, with my Canadian credit card. I had them ship the order to my parent's condo in Florida. All I had to do is provide the correct bill to & ship to addresses.

Hummm I can understand your point about shipping, but isn't there any import tax at all on bringing precious metals INTO Canada from another country? I'm sure that the tax in general might diffuse some of the shipping costs.

If your looking for a bigger amount of silver, say near 100 ounces, you may look into Golden State Mint. The price drop may be significant, especially if you get silver if it is near $18-20 USD an ounce.

There are a lot of companies out there like Merit, Provident, Golden State Mint and others that might ship to you. I am SURE if you get an address to a local dealer in TX, they can order you the amount of silver you require, and you can walk out of the store with the silver in hand, and ship or carry it back as you wish.

Worse case - call the company you are interested in doing business with. Its harder for them to say no over the phone, especially on medium to large orders. I am sure they can process an order on the phone and do the necessary verification and do a smooth transaction.

Tell the rep on the phone that you are willing to sign personally for the merchandise when it arrives ( typially called a direct sign -only addressee can sign for the package).

Forms online are to keep Most people honest.

I talked to APMEX and Provident, and neither of them are willing to ship to a different address from the billing address. APMEX apparently changed this recently due to an increase in fraud. Seems like I'm out of luck on my quest. I'll try looking for a local shop in the areas I'll be in next. Thanks to those that replied!

I tried doing this through APMEX and I even changed the address on my credit card to the usa shipping address but then I found out they don't except Canadian credit cards...so I had to mail them a certified check....because I found out a bank wire cost $30 bucks

With APMEX and Provident , I always pay by check to get the cash discount. Big deal, it takes an extra 8 days for trhe check to be mailed and to clear. Your going to enjoy the coins forever, I can be patient for an extra 8 days.

Provident is in Dallas TX. Order ahead, Send your check in plenty of time, get your cash discount and you will have a great surprise waiting for you when you get to TX this winter.
