I usually stick to pennies and nickels when it comes to CRH because I find those denominations to be the most interesting here in Canada, because you can still realistically find coins dating back to the the fourties and earlier (my oldest is a 1910 US wheat ironically enough). However sometimes I get the itch to search for silver and pick up a bunch of dime rolls. So far I have only found 2 silver dimes to date, in a friends' change bucket. I offered hime melt value but he insisted on face, yay! I have never found any silver in bank rolls, however I do see quite a few 1968s, such a tease.
My question is, is there still any silver in the wild here in Canada, or is it a waste of time?

I think, waste of time. You barely find any and I do mean barely. Over the past 2 years I've found 1 1967 quarter and 1 1968 50% dime. Then again you could do it just for the fun of it.

I just roll hunt for fun, but around a year ago I found a 1965 dime in my change. And more recently, a 1967 dime roll hunting (around a month ago). I haven't searched much dime rolls... only $20 each time, and that might have been my 7th or 8th bundle. It's still possible to find them.

I've found 2 or 3 silver canadian dimes and a Canadian silver quarter here in the us. That's on top of the us silver I find. My guess is its out there but you just gotta do heavy volume

Believe it or not I actually just found a silver dime (1957). I guess there are still a few stragglers out here.

it is out there but you have to go through lots of rolls, I find about 1 silver coin in about every box and 1/2, most often it is a silver 1968 coin, in my last 5 boxes I found a 1964,1967, and a bu 1968..but be prepared to get skunked as well, many boxes produce nothing at all..

I bought my first box of Canadian dimes today, I always buy nickels, or if I make it into the USA I will buy abox of pennies.. Today I actually found a 1965 silver dime. Woo-hoo. So yes I would say they are still out there.

The ARP is destroying any hope of finding good coins in Canadian change. The Alloy Recovery Program I'm sure traps all silver coins along with the main target...the pure nickel coins of 1968-2000. Canada is pretty much the land of plated steel now. Start searching now, because in next few years nothing good will be left.

There aren't many silver coins to be found anymore so you can imagine my shock when I cracked a roll of dimes the other day and found a 1936 in the group. I didn't get really excited because I knew it couldn't possibly be one of THE 1936 dimes and it wasn't even one of the "BAR" dimes but still, I didn't have a 1936 in the collection so now I do.

Nice find, bobber bear! Always fun to find silver and have it be a hole filler as well.

I still seem to average 1 silver per two boxes of quarters or dimes. The ARP is pretty active in the larger centres, so I think it depends where you get your boxes from...
