I have talked to a LOT of people and they tell me that they have multiple safes to store alot of their collectibles.

For those that are collectors, if your looking to upgrade or purchase a new safe, I think it's important to shop around for your brand.

When I did it years ago it saved me thousands, and it was free shipping. All I did was look to Home Depot online, order it online and jump through a few small hoops. My purchase went pretty smoothly and the safe was delivered fast and friendly.

I bought a rather BIG safe, 5 feet tall 4 feet wide and about 3 feet deep. Its primary purpose is a gun safe, but it has shelving and works absolutely fine for what I need it for. It even has a power recepticle and a USB port in it as well. I could easily fit in say 200+ of the NGC or PCGS plastic boxes that hold 20 graded coins. So there is PLENTY of room for most people, and they hold a wide variety of collectibles, weapons heirlooms and more.

At the rate the son and I are investing in coins, potentially we may need to get another safe of equal size. Currently we are storing only the higher value coins in the safe and leaving the lesser value coins out, but that practice may change over time.

Take a look t these prices, then go to the manufacturer's website and see what they charge. I don't know if free delivery is included anymore, but it doesn't hurt to ask, or to wait for a promotion to show up.

For me a safe deposit box is safe enough.
No one to see your safe at home.
No trying to find a secret place to put one.
No monitoring of moisture aborbing stuff.
No forgoten combination numbers or lost keys.
No problems except must go by the banks time tables.

I buy mine at Tractor Supply - delivered to the store is $50. They usually have several models on hand though.

FYI - to double or triple the fire rating on any safe, remove the current liner, add 1/2" layer of CONCRETE board, return liner (minus the 7/8" you added....and you are set. Add a piece of 5/8 or 3/4" concrete board to the top/outside of the safe, prevents the fire from burning down into the safe - as in - when the roof collapses.
