Was wondering how/what everyone collects here. I mean, do you search ebay lots looking for new additions or buy specific coins? Are you trying to collect one coin from every country or every business strike they produce?just curious as to what everyone collects here and how they go about obtaining them. Thanks.

Just one example for me...........I am member of local (City) coin club...We hav monthy meetings to learn, visit, socialize,..., and hav a Auction--Each member can put 6 items max in the Auction.....Sometimes bidding gets Spirited when people want the same coin or set.....But normally it is better for a buyer----they or I can get a great deal,,,,,I try to go to save money for meetings......sometimes spend all I brought... I coolect PaperMoney now- before I was a canadian coin collector...I bought tokens, US, and Brit though....

Welcome to world coin collecting, mjjudd.

I am trying to collect one coin of each denomination, from each mint, from each year, from all the countries. A big task that will never be finished, but I will enjoy trying.
Most of my coins have come from trading, but I do buy bulk lots from time to time.
However you choose to do it, just have fun.

When it comes to World coin collecting, I NEVER look for specific coins. You can spend a whole lifetime looking for just what you want.

For World collecting I frequent coin shows and dealers, and look through their higher priced junk boxes, with a completely open mind. That way, you can find interesting pieces from ancient times to current.
I have a preference for coins 1800 to 1900 in the best condition for price, although I will happily collect ancients from China and India, medieval European hammered coinage, milled coins of the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as Roman and Greek.

ebay can also be a good place to look, but since I am a cherry picker, my success rate in ebay is very low, because I am always looking for that excellent value for money item.
With my approach to collecting, lots of patience is needed, as well as the talent to spot a bargain. In my case, the 'talent' is hard earned over a period of nearly four decades of experience.

My collection of World coins numbers about 2,500 and I would have about 200 coins over 1,000 years old. There are also a few gold coins in this. Most of the higher valued coins in the collection have been acquired as lucky low bids at public auction. Nevertheless, most items would be valued at less than $10 apiece.

My collection basically is a historical statement of the development World coinage since it's invention.
Rest in Peace

I have been collecting some world coins this past year. I saw this site where somebody collected coins with animals on them and that looked like fun so that's what I'm doing for fun.

I have a more serious collection of US coins, but when my husband and I go to coins shows we have a lot of fun searching junk bins for coins with critters on them.

Some people collect their birth year or one from every country. I suppose you could pick any theme, like ships or plants or monarchs.

I dig through junk bins all the time - my hands get filthy but there is lots of silver and bargains to be had. I have made just one or two finds worth more than $20... from bins prices under $1

This is also a great way to accumulate tons of coins... I have got about 1300 from over 150 countries.
