I've come to the conclusion in my search of the ultimate Wheat penny collection (a tube of each year/mintmark constantly upgrading for best condition possible):

1. Buy them in large lots from ebay/the rare coin store that has them.
2. Buy albums other people have put effort into, already organized so they go into tubes easier.
3. Buy them individually (better quality, easier to sort, much more expensive)

So I'm asking for ideas in how I should go about this.

Any and all comments are appreciated

The first thing I would do is figure out my budget. Then I would find the best grade cent that would fit my budget.

I never bought any wheat cents in bulk, so I can't give you an opinion. But it seems like it would be expensive considering how many 1909 S VDB, 1922 no D, and 1914 D's you would have to buy to fill a tube.

Always buy the best that you can afford. don't buy culls or book fillers just to have them and that is what you will get buying them so called "unsearched lots" that's just my opinion though and the way I worked my cent books and it has worked for me.

Wheat cents go pretty high in 5,000+ on ebay. I would never buy them on there. My local coin shop had a 5,000 bag for $120 that I picked up a couple years ago. Then a member on this site sold me 2,500 for $40. In these lots I got many steels, teens, twenties, and uncirculated wheaties. I guess all I can say is wait around tell the good deals come by.

Norton, I like going to estate auctions. There always seems to be large quantities of Wheats available. I have made some great buys that way.
