What are peoples thoughts on CGS and PCGS?

Is one more desirable than the other? And where in the UK can you have your coins PCGS slabbed, if anywhere?

Thanks in advance.

Ah, now here's a topic that's likely to cause some controversy!

But I'll summarise by just saying TPGS/slabs just aren't as popular in the UK as US.

And to answer your question, CGS undoubtedly have the upper hand when it comes to knowledge of British coins. But they are little known outside the UK and their 100 point grading (as opposed to the 70 point US Sheldon scale) means that if you want to sell your coin in the US an American TPGS will probably be preferable.

If you aren't slabbing to sell? Well, there are other, cheaper ways to protect your coins.

Bear in mind, the vast majority of coin sales in the UK are still 'raw' (ie, unslabbed). And most collectors I know just break open a slab when they buy a coin.

That help?

The British rejection of TPG slabs always comforts me that perhaps good sense will not be driven from the world. Bless you all!

This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England!

That's one of my favourite Shakespeare quotes. In fact it probably is my favourite. Just the first two lines are beautiful.
