Hey everyone,

So I am new to coin roll hunting and I am currently doing quarter hunting as this has a duel purpose. I get to search for errors pre 64's etc, etc and my kids get to work on their State Quarters and ATB Quarters. I took some advice from from the forum and I ask some questions from the manager of my pick up bank. She was super nice about my speaking with her, buy she told me all of their rolls come from the fed everything that is dumped in their coin machine is returned to the fed in bags and they take in new rolls. Is that a good thing? Does the fed sort out silver quarters?

No, the Fed does not sort out silver. I think it's a great idea to look for State Quarters and ATBs, but quarters are by far the least productive for silver.

Read a few threads, you'll see what I mean. Happy hunting!

And one more tip:

If you're trying to build the State and ATB Quarter sets, don't get a box of quarters. Both sets will be just about done after that. Search no more than five rolls at a time, it will be more fun that way and will tie up less capital.

A quick guide to CRHing silver:

Pennies: Obviously no silver to be found here unless there is an extremely (and I mean extremely) rare mistake.

Nickels: Pretty good silver output, however, with silver at only 35% in the War Nickels, not much value there.

Dimes: Good silver find rate. Only problem is the coins are too small, therefore reducing amount of silver.

Quarters: It's POSSIBLE to find silver here, but very, very little on rare occasions. That's why the quarter thread only has about 75 pages (no offense, QRHers).

Halves: Great silver output. A lot of banks won't carry them, so obtaining halves is an issue.

Small Dollars: Like pennies, nothing here. Unless they have silver NIFCs.

Large Dollars: Very hard to get, only silver would be an NIFC Ike unless you win the lottery and get a Morgan or Peace.

I agree with the capital issue, but I he can do a whole box, it's much more efficient. And the whole set will NOT be completed after one box.
