Take a look at this listing...and see if you think its possible that it's had the word "copy" removed from the obverse field on the left side.

Having said that ... the die crack on the reverse looks "right as rain" ... but something's going on in the obverse field?

Looks ok to me.

What I do not like is this statement

Are they saying it is not the coin you would receive? Also, a bit pricy for a cleaned coin. imo

I didn't even make it to that statement ...

I've been looking at a lot of these since I need one for my type set, and I too think it's a bit ambitious ... but the disturbance in the field is troubling.

Looks fine but definitely cleaned. I love the die crack running across the entire back.

I always think that "nice" coins from high volume Sellers are being sold on ebay raw because they won't slab. The one pictured won't slab because of the obverse marks. Whether it had the word COPY removed I don't know. But nothing surprises me.

I don't see COPY being removed but the field scratches are a concern. And definitely cleaned as well.

But the reverse die cracks are ASTOUNDING!! Man, I would be very hard pressed not to bid on it just for that reason! Wow!

Only if they used the stock photo provided by ebay which usually jumps out as a stock photo and has an extremely white background.

PCGS recently teamed up with ebay to provide information for the listing templates for coins. Its the reason why theres now a lot of the variety ones available and its been greatly expanded. I believe its still a work in progress and they havent finished doing them all yet but should be done by early next year. Not to long ago they were only available to beta testers for the system.

If its one PCGS has provided the information for that disclaimer is at the bottom of the description facts before the seller can insert their comments.

Why spend that much money on a "chance"?
For that much I want the coin slabbed.

Oh, and even if it's real it's at BEST a DETAILS coin.

You'll find that the vast majority of Bust halves are "details" coins. Look for something with original surfaces and you're talking about a lot more money. I don't own a slabbed coin yet. But I've only been into this since 1968 ... I guess there's still time.

Genuine, but I can't help thinking this one would be a disappointment in-hand, and he's getting top dollar for a Details coin at the grade.

I knew it wasn't a coin "for me" ... but I'm always suspicious of selected abrasions. For less money than the seller's asking for this one, you can get nicer specimens. The rest of my Half dollars are AU ... and BU ... all the way back to1822, so I've been holding out for a long time on this one. This coin would look awful nestled between an AU-55 Bust half and an MS-61 Seated half minted in 1843.

Sorry about switching off the PM function. My explanation as to why I did that, would be too political to not "bend" the forum rules, but suffice it to say that despite it's obvious benefits and convenience, I NEVER even open my email account. I use web based "form" email, I use ebay's messaging, and forums where PMs are stored on the forum server and accessible from the forum console. This forum simply redirects it to your inbox....and I don't use "regular" email.

I'll send you an ebay link via PM and you are welcome to contact me that way.
