Many say silver in terms of Washington quarters is virtually impossible. They're almost ALL gone. Since I've started collecting, (3+ years ago), I have been lucky enough to pull 3 silver quarters from circulation. Mind you, I do not roll hunt for them, I have received these in change. Is this normal, how many have you guys found through circulation? Not roll hunting, just pure circulation.

That's actually a great find rate from change! So far, I have found one in change. Sold it to my brother, he didn't know its value and spent it. It was a 1964, I would do anything to have it back. All I can hope is that it fell into the hands of another collector, maybe a CRHer.

Thanks ! One is great. My dates were 1947, 1956, and 1964.

I have roll searched one box to put together a State Quarter set with my son and found none. Other than that, I think I have found maybe 4 in my entire life (37 years old) in change or in the tills at the movie theaters.

I don't roll search either but I did get one in my change from bed bath and beyond last year. I also found a silver canadian quarter under my spare tire in my old car before I scrapped it.

Two. '58 and '64. Found about a dozen roll searching, including a silver proof State Quarter, that threw me for a loop.

Since most vending machines reject silver quarters and most roll hunting quarters come from vending machine operators depositing their coins from vending machines combined with the fact that the quarter is the largest denomination of circulating coinage (we all no one except me spends halves and dollars coins ) I would say slim to none. In the 4 or 5 boxes of quarters I have ever searched I have found 0.

I've found four. A 64D on the ground outside a liquor store, another 64D in change at the Bingo hall I volunteer at, a 59D spotted in the teller's till at the bank, and the one that really takes the cake, a 26S SLQ also in change at the Bingo hall

I have found the occasional 64 a few times over the past few years but have actually found circulated proofs pretty often. I have found 3 silver proofs now. One was very toned and dirty but the feel of the coin was still very sharp. The others were pretty obvious in hand.

1962penny - I'd say you've been very lucky. I can't recall the last silver quarter I've pulled from change. Probably more than 15 or 20 years ago.
I do get about one silver dime per year in change.
