1915D Barber quarter Almost Uncirculated AU Detail. (611)
(just search that on ebay) (is that legal, mods?)

Hi, I haven't posted here in a while, but...

First, I'd like to claim this coin if the results I get here are positive. Thank you.

Second, there seems to be some black or tarnish on the bottom of the reverse on this coin...is that real tarnish, and would it stay there for good? Also, is there mis-coloration also on the top of the obverse?

Your opinions on grade? It seems to be a nice coin from what I can tell. Any obvious signs I should watch for that would make some here shy away from the coin?

I may still buy it even so, since I like the coin a lot.

Thanks mucho!
Jeremy

Coin looked very nice, looks legal. Not sure what's trends for this are but if it was fairly priced, I hope you won it.

Ah well, didn't want to wait too long. Bought it!

It's my new baby, along with my 1883 w/ cents Liberty!

Edited to add: Thanks! Good to have other's positive opinions!

It should be worth $10+ more than I bought it for, and it'll hold a good place in my collection.

Thanks! Should have been a good deal then...

What I did at first was to get cheap examples of various types of coins from that time, but now I try to get a nice coin as an example, one that appeals to my eye and can be held on to for the future. This coin is a great example of what I look for.

I have to say I tend to agree. What's left of the toning is rather too dark to be just standing alone by itself in small patches - I'm thinking that's what didn't get removed when the coin was dipped. On the obverse, it's begun retoning starting at the spots which weren't removed.

Doesn't mean it isn't a nice looking coin, and I could very likely be wrong. But I don't trust the surfaces.

I'm thinking this one was cleaned with baking soda and water quite some time ago. It then started to tone either in an album or envelope. The sulphur in the paper spends to toning. It doesn't have the frosty mint surface like you would expect from a coin of this grade. Usually lightly dipped coins won't take the frost away unless it is dipped multiple times and over done.

I do still like it, and I'll try to see what acetone might do for it or any other "kosher" things, but still a pity that it is cleaned. I was suspecting something...
However, I hadn't been to this site in a while (sorry, work and college are a bother) so when I was reminded that I had been watching a coin, I looked at it, saw that the area around the stars was free from dirt, and assumed that it must not be cleaned (stupid stupid stupid move). I had been uninvolved with coins for so long that I forgot all the examples of cleaned coins that I saw because I used to look at every single coin thread ever on these pages. I feel like a dummy...but ah well.
Thanks for the notice!

Do you guys think that the value is still decently high?

I don't think you were really out of whack at that price. There's very_darn_little wear on the coin - detail is AU55+. Don't sweat it.

Thanks a ton! That's what I thought, but needed to make sure!

Good good, I'm happier with it now.
