Any information that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I don't collect Japanese coins so my knowledge is very limited.
The first coin does resemble a
koban. However, many details of an authentic gold
koban are missing from your piece. Also, I cannot see the characters well enough to see if it says it is a
Bunsei era or a different era coin.
An authentic
Bunsei Koban Kin should weigh 13.1 grams so your "copper alloy" specimen is certainly not correct.
The second coin resembles a Japanese silver coin known as an
Akita Fu Gin issued around 1861.
As you probably know, both the
Busei Koban Kin and the
Akita Fu Gin are
very rare coins.
I do not know of any "copper" versions of these coins.
Hopefully, a more knowledgeable forum member can provide you with better information.
