Probably, many new limited sets will be introduced, cause everything unsold must go till the 2014....
Hope, that's not the reason, and some useful innovations / changes planned to be deployed as website new functionality. Or maybe new interface?

^Maybe. Better late than never but it's probably just new sets for the Christmas season.

...we wish. They wish too... Imagine which additional profit the Mint could report for 2013.

Per the message, its down Saturday at 5pm until Sunday at 5pm.
That's more than regular maintenance. Have to believe that it's a system upgrade - either software or hardware.

Quote: (CNN) -- HealthCare.gov, the problem-plagued federal online site for signing up for insurance under Obamacare, will go down for extended maintenance on Friday night and overnight ahead of Saturday's deadline to have it working for most people, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said. The Obamacare question: Can the website handle the volume? The overnight maintenance overnight is set to last from 9 p.m. ET Friday until 8 a.m. ET Saturday. Oh wait a minute, it's the mint's site we're talking about...

Is it not perfect timing for on-line shoppers to visit Canada Post during the maintenance and save 15% on nearly all Royal Canadian Mint coins?! Perhaps the Mint knew Canada Post's sale - and decided to lay low from the embarrassment of not having a Black Friday sale.

I don't think the RCM is capable of being embarrassed about anything they do.

Is there something about being a crown corp. that makes it harder to subcontract shippers and freighters? With the profit they make I think they can afford to do it. What are they achieving by holding everybody's money for a long period of time?

At the risk of repeating, the delays are not a result of physical shipping. They are production related.
As well, the Mint had some significant water damage last month that impacted their production schedules. Because it's not public knowledge, I can't give details.
They also don't charge customers until items are shipped so I don't see how they are "holding everybody's money for a long period of time".
That said, no matter what the cause, these delays are certainly frustrating.
