At the bank I noticed that the teller had rolls of quarters in shrink-wrap. This is the kind of wrapping you see on new rolls directly from the mint. I thought they would be new and so picked them up.

Turns out they are all previously circulated coins.

Moral of the story

Not all shrink wrapped coins contain previously uncirculated coins

Any thoughts?

This surprised me the first time I seen them as well. They are quite common. I believe they are old coins that went through the recycling program and re shrunk wrapped by the mint but I could be wrong..

I wonder how long before the RCM starts harassing people in advertisements to redeem their pocket change stashes?
Never thought I'd see the day the pure nickel coins were removed from circulation...wow.

One coin dealer told these rolls are only worth face value and "just take them to the bank".

I hate seeing shrink wrapped rolls. Means they are all new-er coins. When I get a sealed box of dimes or quarters I just go straight to another branch and return it. Waste of time looking at 2001-present coins
