I am new to collecting and I received some penny's from a friends work that were being donated. to pick from and replace in some rolls there where Canadian and american coins with kind of a dull brownie shine. No damage just a few greyish spots have these been tampered with or are they worth holding onto.

My feeling is that all Canadian pennies are worth holding on to.

Thanks for the help guys,me and friend are collecting to see how far we can expand a collection with nothing but the change around our house's. so if these are worth it we might try and get rid of them. Could you tell me if the ebay route is easy enough for a new collector to get rid of coins.

short answer, NO.

well technically yes it's easy, but as a new collector you shouldn't get rid of anything before you know what it is you are getting rid of. eBays sales under $10 are not really worth the time.

So maybe hold onto all the coins we get and get a lump sum for all lot of coins at a time. Could you tell me is grading coins a good route to go? I see that a ICGS coin bring's something like three times more. I have lots of friends who have saved pennies for years [circ and uncirc]that they wanna give me, so if I submit lots at a time does that reduce costs?

I have a book my struggle is with grading aspect I have some really nice coins in the 60's 70's and 80's that are nice clean not scratch other than high areas but I don't know where they came from they where all together in a roll in my mind they look like un-circ ms63 and 64 red and redbrown but I think because I am new I am grading wrong
